Wang Jie is an emerging artists based in Shanghai/Toronto/Chicago. Her body of work mainly focuses on exploring the phenomenas between man and nature and create metaphors with distinct mediums. She aims to zeroing in on everything, leaving behind preconceived impressions, but gaze at the objects themselves and their relationship, rather than gaining insight into what constitutes it.
Statement
Man and nature mimic each other, they try to peel themselves away, but still embracing in the end. My lens cautiously observing their every move as an outsider, and then I can't help but join in this subtle game of connect the dots. I followed the observed phenomena with metaphors: people like shadows, crowds like forests, and sometimes like lifeless plants drooping and ignoring each other. In this process, I found that using a single medium simplified my thinking. I was able to better discover my actual motivation for creating. Zeroing in on everything, leaving behind preconceived impressions and any general understanding, I try to gaze at the objects themselves and their relationship to each other, rather than gaining insight into what constitutes it.
